The Story
Mosquito Joe is a fast-growing, award-winning mosquito-control franchisor with territories open and available across the United States. Mosquito Joe provides outdoor pest control services (primarily mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas) to residential and commercial clients, making outside fun again.
Kate Gould, owner of the NW Houston & S Brazos Mosquito Joe location stated: “Our goal is to make pest control fun by giving people back their outside spaces.”
Running a franchise isn’t for the faint of heart. Many franchise owners know how difficult it can be to juggle the many tasks that come with running a full-time business. In fact, owner James (JP) Newcomer of Mosquito Joe in the Metro East IL store works another full-time job while also managing his franchise. “When I first started running my franchise, I kept asking myself, how am I going to track time cards and my employees on top of my current job?”

The Challenge
Kate Gould opened up her first Mosquito Joe franchise back in 2015 with high hopes to grow her business. She knew that during the high service season there would be a communication challenge. Kate wanted to make sure herself and her business was prepared for the high season before she even opened the doors. She was on a mission to find a tool to help her manage her team.
“I wasn’t looking for an old-school time clock machine. I needed something that could do more.”
Kate and her employees are on the road a lot, so it was important for Kate to find a tool that can easily be accessed from her phone. “It’s difficult to communicate and keep track of all my employees when we are all on the road in different locations, servicing different houses and businesses.”
Kate did a lot of searching online to find the perfect tool for her growing and fast-paced business. She needed a tool that could not only benefit her business, but her customers too. She needed to make sure her technicians arrived on time to the customer’s house and completed their duties.
JP Newcomer, on the other hand, started running his franchise on another workforce management system called When I Work. “There were so many issues, from bad connectivity to inconsistent features. It added more administrative work to my already full plate.”
That’s when JP decided to research online and read forums to find a better solution. That’s when JP discovered Deputy.

JP Newcomer gravitated towards Deputy after reading forums online, all pointing to Deputy as the ultimate solution. “It’s everything I need it to be.”
He also noted that the News Feed feature has significantly helped him organize his team. “The News Feed feature is by far my favorite feature. Now, I don’t have to waste time when individually texting or emailing my employees. With Deputy, I can communicate and send updates or any last minute changes — all in one place.”
JP also appreciates that Deputy is always making improvements and adding features. “As an IT guy, I appreciate how quickly Deputy pushes out new features and how user-friendly they are.”
